Survey Monkey Provides an Easy Way to Create Surveys

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Create surveys, collect responses, generate data – Use Survey Monkey’s features to generate the information you need to increase revenue.

Survey Monkey Logo

Survey Monkey is a tool that helps build online surveys. Survey Monkey provides many different options that allow you to choose the way your questions can be answered including drop-down answers, multiple choice, rating scales, and tick boxes. Also, you can choose to make certain questions required or randomize the answers to eliminate bias. You can customize the look of your survey as well by changing the color, size, or style of any of the elements in the survey.

Collecting surveys is also very simple. After you have created your survey, you will be given a link that you can then post wherever you want. You have the option of stopping the collection of surveys once you have reached a set date or amount.  If you do not want to do it that way, you can also use Survey Monkey’s list management software. This will send a survey invitation to everyone you include on your e-mail list. It will then track who has already responded and allow you to send out follow up reminders. It takes care of all opt-outs for you.

When all results have been collected, Survey Monkey also has the ability to analyze the results for you. You can view them as graphs and charts, or look into individual responses. You can also choose to only show some results. Downloading your results into multiple formats is also among Survey Monkey’s capabilities. You are also able to securely share your results.

Survey Monkey is the perfect way to discover people’s opinions. Surveying customers or potential customers will not only show people that you are genuinely interested in their opinion, but it can also be used to enhance customer service, improve operations, or even help you decide whether or not to undertake new business ventures. Basing business decisions on surveys can help increase profit and customer loyalty through unbiased feedback.

Kampyle Collects Instant Feedback from Website Visitors

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Kampyle collects customer feedback to help you increase conversion rates, reduce customer attrition, and improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Kampyle is a feedback management software that helps you collect, analyze, and manage your website visitors’ feedback. The site is well organized and very easy to navigate. It allows you to place customizable, branded feedback forms on your website that are easily accessible; customers just need to click on the survey. After submitting feedback, users have the option of including their email addresses for follow up. Nearly 60% of these people leave their valid email addresses. Customers can tell you what they like, what needs improvement, and if there are any glitches in the site.

Website owners are now able to communicate with customers who leave feedback. Many people choose not to participate in feedback surveys because they are typically issued a generic “we appreciate your feedback” message at the end. With Kampyle, business owners can collect feedback, allow the Kampyle system to analyze it, see what changes need to be made, and make them. Afterward, you are able to contact the people who participated in the survey and tell them the changes you have made.

Kampyle is a budget friendly (prices ranging from free to $999/month), easy to use program. At their site, you choose the fields you want added to your survey as well as customizing the look and feel and then copy and paste the code that Kampyle creates into your website template. It has real time reports that let you analyze data and make necessary changes. Additionally, with a built in response system, you are able to efficiently communicate with customers.

Website users are frequently frustrated by giving feedback and having nothing come of it. Kampyle makes users feel like providing their opinions was worth their time.

How Crazy Egg Can Supplement Existing Analytics

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Crazy Egg is a colorful way to improve your existing analytics and your conversion rate.

Crazy Egg is an online service that allows users to see where people are clicking on their webpage. This service is a great way to supplement existing web analytics results.

While typical web analytics software can tell you which page is most popular and length of time people stayed on your site, Crazy Egg has the ability to show you the hot spots of each page. Using three features, Crazy Egg shows you exactly what people are clicking on.

The features Crazy Egg provides are:

Heatmap: This provides you a picture of your site with different color shading over each area. The different colors represent how “hot” each area of the site is according to number of clicks.

Confetti: With a different colored dot representing each individual click, Confetti allows users to see the different types of traffic you receive as well as what they were interested in. It includes a dropdown menu to show different confetti maps including type of browser used, top search terms and top referrers.

Overlay: This feature is very similar to confetti but less busy. Overlay displays your page and then shows the different areas where people clicked by displaying a plus sign within a colored circle. Users can click the plus sign and each opens up to display the number of clicks, percentage of overall clicks, and more details such as the referrers to the site.

Additionally, Crazy Egg can also create a list that shows reports and notifications.

The site provides multiple different packages depending on how many pages you want to track, the number of visit you would like to track, etc. These packages start as low as $9.00 a month with the most expensive being $99.00 a month.

While Crazy Egg is not going to provide you with all the web analytics information you need, it is an excellent way to supplement existing data.

How to Use Social Media to Get Media Attention

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Watch yesterday’s free webinar on how to use social media to generate press, buzz, and prospects.

Yesterday on the Right On – No Bull Internet Marketing Best Practices Webcast Channel, David Oates, President of Stalwart Communications, gave a fascinating presentation about the death of the press release. According to David, the rise of social media coupled with the decline of the news media has nearly eliminated the usefulness of press releases to generate buzz and gain the attention of the media.

Public relations experts and business executives alike are now turning to social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to send important news items directly to their customers as well as important media contacts.

Using the tactics David suggests during his presentation, companies can move towards ditching the press release and using social media exclusively to gain a level of public relations success that exceeds expectations.

You can view the full presentation below by making a free BrightTALK account. This free account will also give you access to all future webinars we do on our Internet Marketing Best Practices Webcast Channel.

Why You Should Hire People without Meeting Them

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Get rid of the job interview to pick good employees.

Hiring Employees

Can you imagine a pro football team that picked its players by reviewing their resume and asking them about their “biggest weakness”?

As absurd as it sounds, that’s what many companies do when it comes to hiring new people.

Best selling authors Dan and Chip Heath write in the June 2009 edition of Fast Company that American business has the hiring process all wrong.  Most businesses shift through resumes and applications, and then conduct interviews to hire someone.  They attempt to assess how well someone might fit into the organization and size them up to make a hiring decision.

Even though this is the “official” hiring process followed by most companies, years of research proves it to be highly ineffective in predicting the success of new employees.

We couldn’t agree more.

The best indicator of future job performance is past job performance.  The best way to assess past job performance is through review of past work samples, job-knowledge testing and peer ratings of performance.

None of those 3 elements can be properly evaluated in a job interview or from a resume.

Now you may argue that your job opening requires social skills and the only way to evaluate those is through an interview.  But think about that for a minute.  You are going to meet someone and in a span of an hour learn more than you would from peer ratings of past job performance?  Doubtful.

Most of us think we are good at interviewing as a predictor of future employee performance, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  What we should do is adopt the practices followed by a winning football team:

  • Review past work samples – a football team reviews video tape of the player…what work samples can you review of your applicants?
  • Job-knowledge testing – great teams simulate game situations for prospective players to assess their knowledge and skills…apply the practice to your business.
  • Peer ratings – football teams interview teammates and opponents of prospective players to find out what peers think of their performance.  You should do the same.  Peers will tell you much more than references or past supervisors ever will.

The job market has never been more packed with candidates.  If you are hiring now (and many of you will be soon as the economy improves), let your competitor hire the “friendly person” who “loves working with people.”  Instead, you focus on job tests, work sample and peer reviews to hire your new employees.  Do that and watch your new hire success rates soar.

Most Effective Email Marketing List Building Tactics Revealed

Monday, August 10th, 2009

New study finds the most and least effective methods for collecting email addresses for email marketing.

Exact Target Logo

If you have ever done anything with email marketing, chances are you know how important it is to have a solid list of email addresses to target. But what’s the best way to capture those email addresses?

A new study by ExactTarget, in collaboration with the Email Marketers Club, and the Center for Media Design at Ball State University might have the answer.

According to the paper, capturing email addresses when a potential customer is highly engaged, either at point-of-sale, on a website, is up to 60% more effective then via other methods such as list rentals and mass advertising.

The most effective methods for capturing email addresses according to the study are online registration, inbound call centers, at the point-of-sale, and through social sharing sites, in that order.

The least effective methods, the study concluded, were offline advertising, outbound call centers, and list rental. The study also points out that almost 33% of email marketers don’t bother to evaluate their list building methods for issues.

Another interesting finding of the report shows that while B2B marketers benefited from offering incentives to capture email addresses, B2C marketers do better without offering incentive.

Finally, the study predicts that just this year, sharing email content via social networks is expected to increase 348%. That means that if you are not making it easy to share each article on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites, you may be losing out.
