A Great Example of Marketing

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Hats off to Football Fanatics for capitalizing on marketing tactics to promote Rose Bowl bound Buckeyes.

Football Fanatics used the Ohio State Buckeyes’ November 14th win over Iowa to launch a marketing campaign to sell their products.  Taking several steps to promote apparel and gear,  Football Fanatics demonstrates the following smart tactics:

1. Timing – What better opportunity to capitalize on the excitement of the Buckeyes heading to the Rose Bowl then by emailing potential buyers within two minutes of learning their team was in the big game?

Email Marketing Timing

2. Relevant email graphics – Hoodies, shirts, and hats all clearly tying Ohio State to the Rose Bowl.

Coupons Are Key for eCommerce Success

Monday, October 19th, 2009

New poll shows the importance of coupons in online retailing during the holiday season.

Online Coupons

Want one eCommerce strategy that will result in 30% more sales this holiday season?

According to a new survey by Harris Interactive, a full 30% of adults that use the internet will not buy from an online store unless they have a coupon. 22% of those surveyed will simply go to another store that offers coupons and 8% will wait until a coupon is available.

The survey also shows that 62% of online shoppers actively look for coupons to use with their orders. This can be via a search engine (as if you needed another reason to do Search Engine Optimization), coupon websites like RetailMeNot and Coupons.com, price comparison websites like Pricegrabber.com and Shopping.Yahoo.com, email newsletters, advertisements, and more.

If your company is selling online, offering coupons is a fantastic way to entice people to your store this holiday season. Not only do you help your customers buy the products they want at prices they can afford, you also help yourself to a larger piece of the holiday spending pie.

Calculate Website Conversion Rates With This Free Tool

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Free tool demonstrates how a small change in your website’s conversion rate can lead to a large increase in your profits.

Online marketers spend a lot of time worrying about how to attract visitors to their websites and loads of other variables important to their online success. Unfortunately, many of these marketers forget what’s really important, increasing revenue.

On the Internet, the best way to increase revenue is by increasing conversion rates. Mplans.com has created a small but useful free tool to help marketers understand what effect a change in their website’s conversion rate will have on their sales.

By imputing your number of website visitors over a given time period, your average order amount, and your total orders over the same time period, you will be given your current conversion rate, total sales, and sales per customer. You can then change the conversion rate and see your new totals in a side by side comparison with your current numbers.

This tool offers some fascinating insights into how a small change in your conversion rate can lead to a huge increase in sales dollars. It’s also interesting to see how improving your average order amount (an often forgotten variable) can have a similarly large impact on your bottom line.

Maximize Your Website’s Conversion Rate by Recording User Behavior

Monday, September 21st, 2009

ClickTale in-page web analytics software allows businesses to record visitor actions to increase conversion rates.

ClickTale

Designing a website to maximize conversion rates is no easy task. Even the most experienced internet marketers can only guess which website designs will be duds, and which will turn into money making machines.

Web analytics software was created as a way of understanding how customers interact with a website, where they click, where they come from and a number of other important factors. Unfortunately, there are limitations to regular analytics software. While you can see how long a visitor stayed on your page, there is no way of knowing what they did during that time.

A company called ClickTale has solved this problem with their in-page web analytics solution. The web-based software records actual movies of how users interact with your site. This means that you can see moment by moment what your visitors read, looked at, skipped over, and did on your website.

The software allows you to watch these movies in real time and it also creates heat maps of where your visitors click and scroll, provides link and form analytics, and a lot more.

Using the information collected, you can quickly assess problems with all aspects of your site design including your web forms, links, pictures, navigation, and text. The data collected from thousands of visitors allows you to optimize your website to significantly improve conversion rates, decrease shopping cart abandonment, and improve your overall bottom line.

ClickTale offers a free pricing option, as well as a few other options with increased features which range from $99 to $790 a month depending on your needs.

How Google Analytics Can Help Improve Marketing Campaigns

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Google Analytics provides multiple different tools to see who is visiting you site and how effective your marketing really is.

Do you wonder how effective your marketing initiatives really are? Google Analytics provides free statistical reports on website visitors. It can be used in conjunction with other Google services, such as AdWords and AdSense, so that users are able to truly track marketing efforts and their value.

Custom reporting allows users to create a customizable dashboard that can be e-mailed to others. It also allows for advanced segmentation including choices like “Paid Traffic.” By isolating specific groups, patrons can analyze subsets individually and compare them to current or historic data. Other elements of custom reporting include the ability to create custom reports, export data to other sources such as Excel or CSV, multiline graphing, and more.

Discover more about your advertising ROI by integrating with AdWords and AdSense. Determine which keywords are most lucrative and successful and also which site content creates the most income. Not only can you follow your other Google applications, but you can also track your email campaigns and banner advertisements, etc. With loyalty and latency metrics, you are capable of identifying your best profit sources.

Cross channel and multimedia tracking is also provided in Google Analytics. Use internal site search to understand what your customers want and speed up conversion rates. Flash, video, and social network application tracking is also available.

Visualizing data allows you a new perspective into the mind of your audience. Motion charts allow you compare and expose data relationships that would typically not be as easy to recognize. Other available services include geo targeting to identify your more profitable markets, funnels to help you fix leaks, and many more options.

Google Analytics provides a vast array of tools to help professionals, specifically those in marketing, ensure their efforts are profitable and successful.

Kampyle Collects Instant Feedback from Website Visitors

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Kampyle collects customer feedback to help you increase conversion rates, reduce customer attrition, and improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Kampyle is a feedback management software that helps you collect, analyze, and manage your website visitors’ feedback. The site is well organized and very easy to navigate. It allows you to place customizable, branded feedback forms on your website that are easily accessible; customers just need to click on the survey. After submitting feedback, users have the option of including their email addresses for follow up. Nearly 60% of these people leave their valid email addresses. Customers can tell you what they like, what needs improvement, and if there are any glitches in the site.

Website owners are now able to communicate with customers who leave feedback. Many people choose not to participate in feedback surveys because they are typically issued a generic “we appreciate your feedback” message at the end. With Kampyle, business owners can collect feedback, allow the Kampyle system to analyze it, see what changes need to be made, and make them. Afterward, you are able to contact the people who participated in the survey and tell them the changes you have made.

Kampyle is a budget friendly (prices ranging from free to $999/month), easy to use program. At their site, you choose the fields you want added to your survey as well as customizing the look and feel and then copy and paste the code that Kampyle creates into your website template. It has real time reports that let you analyze data and make necessary changes. Additionally, with a built in response system, you are able to efficiently communicate with customers.

Website users are frequently frustrated by giving feedback and having nothing come of it. Kampyle makes users feel like providing their opinions was worth their time.

How Crazy Egg Can Supplement Existing Analytics

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Crazy Egg is a colorful way to improve your existing analytics and your conversion rate.

Crazy Egg is an online service that allows users to see where people are clicking on their webpage. This service is a great way to supplement existing web analytics results.

While typical web analytics software can tell you which page is most popular and length of time people stayed on your site, Crazy Egg has the ability to show you the hot spots of each page. Using three features, Crazy Egg shows you exactly what people are clicking on.

The features Crazy Egg provides are:

Heatmap: This provides you a picture of your site with different color shading over each area. The different colors represent how “hot” each area of the site is according to number of clicks.

Confetti: With a different colored dot representing each individual click, Confetti allows users to see the different types of traffic you receive as well as what they were interested in. It includes a dropdown menu to show different confetti maps including type of browser used, top search terms and top referrers.

Overlay: This feature is very similar to confetti but less busy. Overlay displays your page and then shows the different areas where people clicked by displaying a plus sign within a colored circle. Users can click the plus sign and each opens up to display the number of clicks, percentage of overall clicks, and more details such as the referrers to the site.

Additionally, Crazy Egg can also create a list that shows reports and notifications.

The site provides multiple different packages depending on how many pages you want to track, the number of visit you would like to track, etc. These packages start as low as $9.00 a month with the most expensive being $99.00 a month.

While Crazy Egg is not going to provide you with all the web analytics information you need, it is an excellent way to supplement existing data.
