How Crazy Egg Can Supplement Existing Analytics

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Crazy Egg is a colorful way to improve your existing analytics and your conversion rate.

Crazy Egg is an online service that allows users to see where people are clicking on their webpage. This service is a great way to supplement existing web analytics results.

While typical web analytics software can tell you which page is most popular and length of time people stayed on your site, Crazy Egg has the ability to show you the hot spots of each page. Using three features, Crazy Egg shows you exactly what people are clicking on.

The features Crazy Egg provides are:

Heatmap: This provides you a picture of your site with different color shading over each area. The different colors represent how “hot” each area of the site is according to number of clicks.

Confetti: With a different colored dot representing each individual click, Confetti allows users to see the different types of traffic you receive as well as what they were interested in. It includes a dropdown menu to show different confetti maps including type of browser used, top search terms and top referrers.

Overlay: This feature is very similar to confetti but less busy. Overlay displays your page and then shows the different areas where people clicked by displaying a plus sign within a colored circle. Users can click the plus sign and each opens up to display the number of clicks, percentage of overall clicks, and more details such as the referrers to the site.

Additionally, Crazy Egg can also create a list that shows reports and notifications.

The site provides multiple different packages depending on how many pages you want to track, the number of visit you would like to track, etc. These packages start as low as $9.00 a month with the most expensive being $99.00 a month.

While Crazy Egg is not going to provide you with all the web analytics information you need, it is an excellent way to supplement existing data.

How to Use Social Media to Get Media Attention

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Watch yesterday’s free webinar on how to use social media to generate press, buzz, and prospects.

Yesterday on the Right On – No Bull Internet Marketing Best Practices Webcast Channel, David Oates, President of Stalwart Communications, gave a fascinating presentation about the death of the press release. According to David, the rise of social media coupled with the decline of the news media has nearly eliminated the usefulness of press releases to generate buzz and gain the attention of the media.

Public relations experts and business executives alike are now turning to social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to send important news items directly to their customers as well as important media contacts.

Using the tactics David suggests during his presentation, companies can move towards ditching the press release and using social media exclusively to gain a level of public relations success that exceeds expectations.

8 Steps to Better Marketing

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Here are 8 easy steps to better marketing results.

Steps to Marketing Success

#1: Have a realistic goal.

Define what you want to achieve and why.  Be specific and realistic.  A big part of the process is to define what you are willing to do to accomplish the goal – you may need to change some behaviors.

#2: Get a support system.

It’s important to include co-workers and possibly vendors who can help you achieve your marketing goals, as well as like minded business people with whom you can swap ideas.

#3: Think positively.

Put your energies towards proactive steps that will take you towards your goals.  Focus on your positives and tone down destructive thinking.

#4: Learn about internet marketing.

Educate yourself about internet marketing.  No matter how good you are at what you’ll do, you’ll struggle and maybe even fail without strong internet marketing.  A great place to learn more about internet marketing is http://righton-nobull.com/internet-marketing-webinars/.

#5: Focus on marketing each business day.

Make marketing an every day process in your business, not an event getting attention only every once in a while.  Steady, consistent effort is what produces the greatest results.

#6: Watch for positive change.

Don’t get IMMEDIATELY hung up on sales.  Look at other key performance indicators (KPI) concerning traffic, time spent on site, conversions, etc. as well.

#7: Don’t expect miracles.

Sustainable and healthy sales growth isn’t a quick fix process.  It’s a process shift, one that offers tremendous rewards beyond sales increases.  As you refine your process, you’ll keep customers longer and understand them better.  Sales will increase and your marketing will start to feel automatic.

#8: Get help when you need it.

If you aren’t making progress, get our help.  You may unaddressed obstacles or need specialized expertise.  We are here to help you.
