1). File names are important
This is often overlooked. Photos with names like “IMG4561.JPEG” do not provide any value to your local search results when posting them to Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter. Instead, change the file name to something the describes the picture like “Red-Sofa.JPEG.”
2). Fill out image descriptions
Whether it’s Facebook, Pinterest or Flickr, don’t skip the image descriptions. You’ll want to include important keywords in your image descriptions. As an example of a description, “This red sofa compliments just about any room. We have it at Greg’s Furniture Emporium, the top furniture store in Phoenix. Visit www.GregsFurniture.com.”
3). Add a location to the image
Some photo sharing sites such as Flickr allow you to geotag an image. This allows you to add a location for the image. You’ll want to use this feature by geotagging photos to the location of your business.
4). Include keywords on photo folders and boards
Whether it’s a photo folder on Facebook or Flickr or a board on Pinterest, you’ll want to include important search keywords in the name of the folder or board. For instance, if “outdoor kitchens and grills” is an important search phrase, use it as a title for a folder or board.
5). Use photos from your website
Some photos haring sites like Pinterest give you the option of embedding pictures from your blog or website. This can give you a quality backlink if people pin the picture to their Pinterest boards. Be sure to include the Pinterest Pin It button on your website.
6). Tag your photos
To improve your local search results, be sure to tag photos whenever possible. Include important keywords in your tags to help with search results.
7). Add pictures to local search profiles
