5 Reasons Manufacturers Need To Use Social Media

Posted on: August 1st, 2011 by joe No Comments

Facebook LogoThose who thought social media would be a passing fad like bell-bottom pants and platform shoes were wrong.

Social media is here to stay, and it’s an important marketing channel for manufacturers and distributors.  Popular social media sites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, are a must for all businesses.

Here are the top-five reasons manufacturers need to use social media.

1. To Get Found On The Internet: Social media is an important search engine optimization (SEO) tool.  Search engines like Google are starting to use social media in search results.  This means that businesses that use social media to promote their products and services have a better chance of get higher rankings on Google.

2. Customers Expect It: Facebook has more than 750 million users, and many of these users want to find your brand on social media.  Customers expect your business to be on social media so they can directly communicate with your brand.  Today’s customers want to share their thoughts about your brand via social media.

3. Marketing Data & Feedback: If you want to know what your customers think about your products and services, you need to be on social media.  Social media will give you a sneak peek at what your customers think about your business.  You’ll be able to monitor your reputation and be able to better handle customer complaints before they spiral out of control.

4. Social Media Is The New Public Relations: If you want to spread the word about your new products and services, you need to use social media.  News about your company will spread faster on social media when compared to a standard press release on the newswire.

5. High Conversion Leads: Remember, leads are about quality not quantity.  And on social media, there are lots of great quality leads.  People on social media are better prospects for your products and service because they already have an interest in what you are selling.

How lawyers are using social networking sites to win divorce cases.

Divorce Trial

Users of Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace beware – your every personal detail can be found by clever lawyers looking to get the upper hand in divorce proceedings, custody disputes, and other legal battles.

Many social network users fail to realize how easy it is for any interested party to get personal information and potentially use it against them in court.

In one custody case, pictures posted on a popular social networking site were used to prove a lady was drinking, despite her promises to the contrary. Lawyers have also been know to investigate Twitter feeds for evidence of gifts and promises to mistresses as well as other harmful secrets.

So before you post anything potentially damaging online, watch out. It could be used against you.

Twitter Revises its Terms of Service and Opens the Door for Advertising

Posted on: September 25th, 2009 by admin No Comments

One of the most popular micro-blogging sites in the world is now looking to profit from its services.

Twitter recently changed their terms of service to possibly allow advertising on their website. Biz Stone, the founder of Twitter, said they are leaving the door open for advertising and that they’d like to keep their options open. Twitter remains conscientious about annoying their rapidly growing user base with tons of ads.

With a user base of over 45 million and still rapidly growing, it’s difficult to resist the revenue that can be generated from advertising. However, there are some potential problems facing advertisers on Twitter. The content on Twitter may create branding issues for advertisers as the quality, validity and potential offensiveness of user posts may thwart their attempts to create positive brand associations.

Twitter’s new terms have opened the door for “targeted advertising,” but they have yet to deploy any such ads to their users.

For more information check out what Twitter has to say on their Blog.

Here’s Why You Should Be Using Social Media

Gain a better understanding of why developing closer relationships with customers and others in your industry can be beneficial for your company.

Social Media Connector

Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn provide you with the opportunity to develop a rapport with customers and others in your industry. It is important to make sure that you are utilizing these sites appropriately for maximum gain.

It is very important to be viewed as an expert in your field. By connecting with other people and sharing your knowledge, you will reinforce your status as an expert and therefore be more recognized in your field. Also, because of your strong influence as an expert, people will be more likely to read what you have to post. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your company. You have the ability to generate leads because people will come to you when looking for answers and someone to work with.  Moreover, many industry leaders are currently using social networking sites. It can be incredibly hard to contact these people by typical means (email, phone, snail mail) but with social media sites, developing relationships with these people is well within your reach.

By connecting with customers and sorting out issues they may have in a public forum, you are proving your commitment to customer service. Not only can you reduce delay in your responses, but you can connect with customers and collect feedback.  Social networks are an excellent place to conduct market research. You are able to monitor what is being said about your company and about other companies in your industry.  It is also a wonderful way to expand your global reach. Social media is an excellent way to market your services to people all over the world.

Social media sites are an excellent place to post interesting content that can improve your search rankings.  By posting your content in multiple social media sites, you will receive a large number of inbound links thus increasing your search engine rankings.

Social media sites are a budget-friendly (free!) way of connecting with customers and others in your industry. Do not let this opportunity pass you by because it is likely that even if you are not on these sites, people are discussing your business.

How to Use Social Media to Get Media Attention

Posted on: August 20th, 2009 by Brian Offenberger No Comments

Watch yesterday’s free webinar on how to use social media to generate press, buzz, and prospects.

Yesterday on the Right On – No Bull Internet Marketing Best Practices Webcast Channel, David Oates, President of Stalwart Communications, gave a fascinating presentation about the death of the press release. According to David, the rise of social media coupled with the decline of the news media has nearly eliminated the usefulness of press releases to generate buzz and gain the attention of the media.

Public relations experts and business executives alike are now turning to social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to send important news items directly to their customers as well as important media contacts.

Using the tactics David suggests during his presentation, companies can move towards ditching the press release and using social media exclusively to gain a level of public relations success that exceeds expectations.

You can view the full presentation below by making a free BrightTALK account. This free account will also give you access to all future webinars we do on our Internet Marketing Best Practices Webcast Channel.
