  • Know Your Audience: You need to know your audience.  In particular, you need to know what they like, dislike as well as what information they find useful.  Your blog is not an advertisement.  It’s a resource that helps customers with their problems.
  • Present An Opinion: Have something to say on your blog.  Don’t repeat facts and news, have an opinion on it.  While doing this, try to keep things lighthearted, just like you would be talking to a friend over lunch.
  • Keep It Fresh And Fun: Don’t be the Wall Street Journal or Businessweek.  Be original, entertaining and keep it up to date if you want people to return.  Use videos, infographics and other multimedia to keep it lively.
  • Find Your Creative Employees:  Find the best storyteller at the company, someone who makes everyone laugh and make them the lead blogger.  Also consider looking outside of your business to find creative people to contribute to your blog.

If you follow these tips, you’ll be on your way to creating a blog that your customers will love.  You’ll also see an uptick in sales.
