How to Improve Website Bounce Rates

High website bounce rates can be a tricky fix for retailers and manufacturers.

A bounce rate is a measurement of visitor engagement on your website. Google explains a bounce rate as the percentage of single-page visits where the person leaves your site from the initial landing page.

A high bounce rate generally means your website content is not relevant to the visitor.

So how do you attract visitors who will find your information important? Follow the tips in this post.

Tip #1 – Take a Look at Traffic Source

What are the top keywords that are attracting people to your website. Does your content match the keywords. For instance, if you sell patio umbrellas, you would want to optimize the content on your website for the keyword “patio umbrellas,” not “umbrellas.” That way you don’t get visitors looking for rain umbrellas on your website.

Tip #2 – Keep Things Simple

Don’t clutter your webpages with tons of pictures and content. Keep it simple. Each page should have a simple primary purpose whether it’s to purchase a product or get an email address. Don’t confuse the visitors with clutter.

Tip #3 – Examine the Call to Action

As noted in Tip #2, every webpage should have a primarily purpose. A simple call to action will help achieve that purpose. Have a clear call to action on all of your web pages. Visitors should be able to easily see it, understand it and take action.

Tip #4 – Optimize Website for Multiple Devices

Does your website look good on a PC? Does it look good on a Mac? How about on a smartphone or an iPad? The key is to have a website that works great on all different types of devices and web browsers. You’ll have a lower bounce rate if you optimize your website for multiple devices.

It’s important to note that not all high bounce rates are bad. For instance, a high bounce rate on your contact page could be a good thing. It means they’ve easily pulled your phone number or email address.
